My Inspirations...

Hi, there! I trust that you had a wonderful Christmas.

Stepping into the year 2011!!  I am taking this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful New Year, filled with amazing surprises, and a new level of hope and opportunity that will come with it.

I have gathered a few images of things that have helped me in my design work through out the year.

I  read about the great Madame Vionnet in my research. A French fashion designer, best known as the queen of bias cut. Some of Madame Vionnet designs were inspired by the Kimono which she incorporated and translated it into her own Western designs. That inspiration, influenced some of my designs...

"Rei Kawakubo is held in such awe and esteem as fashion's leading conceptualist—and so well known as a woman of few words—that most people wouldn't dare imagine her having a sense of humor". ....... and I thought I was the only shy designer on planet earth (snap Rei!)

The Eye of a Parrot Textile

Previously, I commented on designer Doro Olouwu's print, which I though it was similar to mine. I hope you can see the resemblance.

Fabric: Silk Jersey
Model: Jestina George
Photographer: Sonia Marabet Sanches

The Motif: by Mbezi Valentine
Media: Oil pastel

You are looking at a section of a parrots eye.
I must also, give credit to my son, a graphics student, who took his precious time to design this exotic motif for me.

The initial inspiration for this collection., is from the Japanese rope bondage. The print is only one section of the collection, more is on its way. I will for the moment, talk about the print and leave the rest for later as I am still trying to gather this whole project together. Upon building up this collection, I looked at various things and one of them was images on the traditional Japanese silk printing, where a parrot caught my eye and sailed on from there.

I love creating my own prints, by doing this; I believe it provides individuality in ones collection. I also find it necessary to complete my creations by designing accessories, which you will see very soon.

The Retro Look!

Doro Olowu Spring 2011

One of my favourite designers. What I love about this collection, is the simplicity of it, and yet very chic!
I have have two things in common with Doru; The style, and the love of crazy prints, to summarise this, I call it timeless chic! You either love it or you don't.
Less is more!

Mad print! Just totally in love. This print is kind of similar to my print which you will see very soon, just watch this space. I know some of you have already seen it, just as mad as this one.
Block colours is my trade mark I suppose.

Love the cut, and the clashing of prints, just super!

The bang-on Green is fantastic!

Totally Retro!!!!
